“Utada Hikaru” releases new song + MV for the Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo movie

When I saw this I damn near stopped breathing. Utada is my FAVORITE Japanese singer. Top of the list, number 1 favorite. I love this girl so much for so many different reasons- it was great to hear her voice again. Sakura Flow (Sakura Nagashi) is the theme song to the new Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo movie, a song in which Utada wrote. I don’t know if this is an official return from her hiatus since it’s a collaboration with a movie, but it’s still a new song from her. Love her voice, love her energy, love Hikki. I hope she’s enjoying her vacation, and I REALLY hope we get a world tour sometime in the future. Read below for more info on Sakura Flow. A lot of touching concepts were used in it, and it’ll help you understand the video better.

Utada Hikaru wrote the new theme song for movie Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, which was released on November 17, 2012.
The music clip was directed by Cannes International Film Festival Grand Prix winner Naomi Kawase. The clip expresses the concept of “motherhood” in a universal light, using beautiful sceneries of Japan. Kawase says, “Because we live in a time such as this, I wanted to incorporate the message of ‘the need to value the things that are presently and immediately around us and can be touched.'” This is a collaborative film for which Utada and Kawase met and exchanged ideas many times in the process of creating it.
