SXSW is just around the corner (March 7th to be exact) and we’ve got days of interviews lined up for you guys! We’re spotlighting some of the awesome Korean bands that are coming to the States to spread not just their own music, but the power of the Korean Rock scene as a whole! Enjoy the interviews, this next one being with Korean Punk band No Brain. No Brain are veterans, having 20 years of Punk Rock experience under their belt. They’ve defined their sound, perform it with confidence, and have done so well for themselves that they’ve gained the attention of WARNER! Yes, Warner the major record label! Congrats on your tour and playing SXSW! Please introduce yourselves
Thank you. We are No Brain from South Korea. We are a Korean punk band and glad to be in the US again.
How’d No Brain get the opportunity to perform at SXSW and what days/times is the band performing?
We toured in the US/Canada last year as part of the 2K13 Seoulsonic tour and got lots of attention. This year, we decided to apply for SXSW again because it was so much fun.
Where do you guys get your musical inspiration?
We generally get our ideas from our daily lives. We all come from different families and backgrounds, and overcoming all the differences through music is great fun.
I know it can be hard for Korean bands to get the opportunity perform in America. What advice would you give to a band wanting to tour the States?
Work hard! The world is getting smaller and there are people and resources around you. Get connected and enjoy making music.
It’s hard for Korean musicians to get notoriety if they don’t have a mainstream Kpop sound. What was it that made people start to notice No Brain as a band, and when did you all begin to really get popular?
We’ve been doing this for nearly 20 years now. There were ups and downs but we met really great people and fans, and were able to grow as musicians as well as individuals. We don’t care what everyone else should sound like. We do what we love, and that’s what got us here.
Besides performing and making new fans, are there any other things you’re looking forward to doing while in the States? Any places you guys wanna see or foods you wanna eat?
SXSW is great because it gives us so many opportunities to see a lot of crazy people and cultures from around the world! We would love to visit everywhere in the world, especially if there’s someone who loves our music!
Are there any other shows planned besides SXSW? If so, where are they gonna be?
We will have an official showcase at SXSW as well as a couple of unofficial parties in the day time. Besides the shows in Austin, we will concentrate on our next album with Warner.
What are some of No Brain’s future plans? Anything big in the works?
We will be working on our next album with Warner. Thanks to Seoulsonic last year, we got this great opportunity to work on an album with a major record label and will be working very hard to make an awesome album for our fans around the world.

Thank you so much to all the music fans out there. We know that there are so many hidden talents to be discovered all around the world, just like the ones we have in Korea.
