Asian Junkie clocked it and I TOTALLY agree, Suzy‘s solo debut is heavy on the Wong Kar-Wai aesthetic from start to finish. Yes No Maybe is literally the SPITTING image of his style, so much so that if you told me Wong Kar-Wai directed it I wouldn’t be surprised.
Unfortunately, the MV is the best part of Suzy’s solo. The lyrics sort of match the video what with them being all about confusion and not understanding your feelings and shit, but musically it’s a bit too poppy for such a “heavy” aesthetic. If you’re gonna do Wong Kar-Wai inspired anything, you gotta make sure the listener/viewer feels it in the gut. It’s gotta be DEEP.
