Taiwan Music Night to Return to CMJ Music Marathon 2014, Featuring Award-Winning Stars, A-Lin, Luantan Ascent, and Dwagie

Organized by GCA Entertainment, Taiwan Music Night will return to New York’s CMJ Music Marathon this October as part of Taiwan Music Express, a week-long cross-cultural showcase of Taiwanese music, hosted by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture (MOC), Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development (BAMID). Taiwan Music Express will feature top Taiwanese artists representing three music genres: award-winning pop sensation and “born diva” A-Lin; solo rock artist, songwriter, and six-time Golden Melody Award-winner Luantan Ascent; and internationally acclaimed rap artist and activist Dwagie. These artists will perform at Taiwan Music Night 2014 at Highline Ballroom on October 24, 2014.

Taiwan Music Express opens with a press conference which will be held at the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) on October 21 at 2:00 pm. On October 22 at 3:30 pm, Taiwan Music Express will be featured at CMJ Music Marathon panel, “Touring in the Asia-Pacific Region,” which will be held at NYU’s Kimmel Center. The panel will focus on the challenges of local and regional tours, as well as importing and exporting artists within the Asia-Pacific concert industry.

It all leads up to the Taiwan Music Night 2014 on October 24th at Highline Ballroom, with doors opening at 6:00 pm. A-Lin, Luantan Ascent, and Dwagie will present a showcase that will satisfy excited fans and introduce newcomers to a range of genres of Taiwanese popular music.

About the Artists
Singer/songwriter A-Lin’s prolific pop music career includes numerous awards and three nominations for Best Mandarin Female Singer at the Golden Melody Awards; six albums and two EPs released over the course of eight years; and performances in Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Incredibly popular in the Mandarin- speaking world, A-Lin is known as the “Born Diva.”

Formerly the lead vocalist of Golden Melody award-winning 90’s alternative rock band Luantan, Luantan Ascent has since added the positions of composer, lyricist, producer, arranger, recorder, mixer and film score composer to an already-impressive resume. Since becoming a solo artist in 2002, Ascent has released nine albums of his own while also composing scores for TV and film.

Taiwanese rapper, songwriter, and TV personality Dwagie, best known for his use of Taiwanese dialects in his performances, is the only rapper from Taiwan to be featured in TIME Magazine, CNN, Reuters, The Times, L’Agence France-Presse (AFP), Suddeutsche Zeitung, and the Discovery Channel. His ground-breaking album releases demonstrate his desire to unite two worlds: his first solo album, Lotus from the Tongue, is considered the first full-length rap album in Chinese; his award-winning second album, People, featured the Dalai Lama; and his third album, Refuse to Listen, featured a collaboration with Nas, uniting East and West.
